Abstract: Model oriented, model based or newly named model centred approaches are often seen as testing methods which needs as precondition a well grown understanding in the way of testing as well as good educated test team members before such methods can be successfully applied to larger organisations or projects. But instead of establishing more or less long-lasting test process improvement projects it is also possible to start immediately applying a model based testing approach. Especially if you are using this kind of testing on system level (leading record “validation of the intended use of a product/solution”) it often offers brilliant results in a very short timeframe.

In this paper we describe exactly such an approach. All the results presented here are based on our experiences with a project performed at Continental Automotive Switzerland AG. We will first describe the starting point, i.e. the existing tool landscape, the current way of testing and some metrics showing the test numbers at that time. Then we will shortly describe the selected MBT technology and will then focus on the concrete steps and efforts performed to establish newly this MBT approach. It will also detail the advantages and challenges we faced.

The paper will be closed with current numbers achieved today and will provide an outlook to the next steps in this project.
