| Abstract: | Complex applications spanning across multiple tiers using a variety of different technologies are more and more challenging the global testing and monitoring engineering teams in particular as this topics have a tight connection. Time-to-market enforces a standardized and optimized process to provide efficacious services for monitoring and testing across the company. The approach taken in Credit Suisse for monitoring and performance testing will be presented. Ensuring drill-down analysis capabilities is key for performance analysis but leads to strong dependencies of the monitors with the applications. Hence, monitors are not only delivering data for testing, but also have to be part of the testing cycle itself. Credit Suisse tackles the problem by pre-packing technology-specific instrumentation sets which are tested on functionality and overhead before going into production. Consequently, software architecture has to consider specific requirements that ensure the testability of applications by defining rules for analysing at the early stages of the application development. The presentation will point out limitations of existing test and monitoring tools in the context of modern web based architecture. |
