Title: Testing on Purpose
Language: English
Target Group: All
Presenter: James Whittaker, Google
Abstract: Testing is often a guesswork-type activity that results in little long term value. We test for days or weeks and the end result is the removal of a few bugs. This talk is about removing some of the guesswork involved in what and how to perform testing and also in increasing the value of testing by ensuring that we do more than simply remove a few bugs.

James Whittaker will talk about the process Google uses to test their Chrome browser and operating system. At Google test planing is purposeful, directed and predictable and the process we use will be shown in detail. James will also outline Google's exploratory test strategy and how it is used for both manual and automated testing. The talk will show how we found real bugs in a real product and also how we built our testing repository so that each time we must validate a new build or version, the testing task gets easier over time.
